A Prayer Answered in a Church Car Park

Florence (“florence”) had been a member of the site for a while before she came across a profile that stopped her scrolling. Aanuoluwapo (“penitential”) had been searching for even longer when the two finally crossed paths. It was Florence who made the first move, in her own quiet way. “I viewed his profile and he messaged me back,” she says simply. That one glance, and his reply, was all it took to get things started.

For Florence, what drew her in went beyond a photo or a well-written bio. “He is a believer, and we are both in the same state in Australia,” she explains — shared faith and shared ground, right from the start. Aanuoluwapo admits there wasn’t any one thing that caught his eye. “There was nothing in particular,” he says, “but I decided to message her when she viewed my profile, with the intention that she could be the one person I have been waiting for.” It didn’t take long for that hunch to feel like something more. “After conversation, I knew she is the woman I want,” he says.

Talking online eventually turned into meeting in person, and the pair arranged their first date in the heart of the city. “We met in Melbourne CBD and visited the library,” Florence recalls. Aanuoluwapo added his own touch to the day, walking her over to one of the city’s best-loved spots. “I showed her the fruit juice stall in Queen Victoria Market,” he says.

Meeting face to face gave each of them a clearer read on the other. Florence came away with an early impression that she’d later laugh about. “He is a serious and strict guy,” she says. Aanuoluwapo, meanwhile, was taken with a different kind of first impression. “The calmness on her face and her quietness were very admiring,” he remembers.

Neither would call the day dramatic, but it left its mark. “It feels light and interesting to spend time with him,” Florence says of that first outing. Aanuoluwapo is more matter-of-fact about it. “Nothing surprising, actually,” he admits, “but the first date was not enough to decide, so we had multiple dates.” Those follow-up dates were where the relationship really took shape.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing from there. Coming from different backgrounds meant working through real differences. “Differences, background,” is how Florence sums up the obstacles they faced, while Aanuoluwapo points to “cultural and personal differences” they had to navigate together.

For Florence, the moment she knew this relationship was different came through faith rather than a single grand gesture. “After praying and fasting, there was peace, and the Lord made a way for our relationship to blossom,” she says. Aanuoluwapo’s turning point came in quieter, more ordinary moments — hours spent at home. “I was inside my house, and we just had a series of night video calls together,” he says.

Those late-night calls eventually led somewhere. On November 23, 2025, Aanuoluwapo proposed — not with a big production, but in a spot that meant something: a church car park, the two of them sitting inside the car.

Looking back, both agree that finding each other has reshaped their lives. “It’s really an answered prayer for both of us,” Florence says. “Right now our life is more purposeful.” Aanuoluwapo doesn’t hesitate when asked to weigh it against everything else he’s experienced. “It is the best thing of all things that has ever happened in my life,” he says.

As for what they’d tell other online daters hoping for the same outcome, Florence points back to the faith that carried her through. “Surrender to the Lord your desire to find a partner,” she advises, “because if it’s His will, things will be wonderful and perfect.” Aanuoluwapo’s advice is more practical, but no less firm. “Know what you want, and keep your focus on what you want,” he says. “Though it may take a while, do not settle for less than what you want. Relationships and marriages are too important to mishandle.”

Two people, nine years of patience on one side and three on the other, and a single moment when one profile view turned into a message back. Florence and Aanuoluwapo’s story is a reminder that sometimes the wait really is worth it.
